Five On Friday: Trim It Up, Not Down

Happy Friday all! Joining Amy for Five On Friday at Love Made My Home. This week I'm fixed on trim. No, not trim as in 'slim and trim', but the big fat kind you find around windows and doors, cabinets and such. Let's get to it.

1. Fake it on window height. This magazine picture shown on the Cote de Texas blog shows some wonderful trim over the door and two side windows that extend the window up without an actual window there.

I dream of adding trim to the 6-foot-high breakfast room window to make it look like the 8-foot-high french doors right beside it. I think the trim above these windows would do the trick.

2. Fake it on baseboards. This is a simple trick that saves big on trim costs, and I think it is a really do-able DIY...just paint the space in between the trim to match the baseboard and you have some inexpensive, super thick baseboard trim.

3.  You can also trim up your doorways something spectacular! Habersham Home's boards on Pinterest are full of pictures. You can go dream for days. Take this as a serious warning...just say'n...you better have a lot of time to kill.

4.  While you're at Habersham Home, check out their cabinet designs too. You could fancy up your laundry room just a little...
Or really fancy up your kitchen a lot!

I know there are many of you who don't get it, but sometimes gaudy just works for me!

5.  OK, enough of all that pie-in-the-sky dreaming. Here's a blogger who's down-to-earth and can teach you to use trim to make your own furniture by melding two pieces together...This post is titled "I Had A Dresser, But Needed A Bookcase"

When I want practical ideas on how to create something from nothing, or how to fix something up, I find myself looking over the shoulder of Catherine at Freddy and Petunia.

Hope you all have a good weekend. We're expecting rain again and things have sure cooled off. Love the rain, so I'll be inside enjoying it all weekend. Be sure to stop by and join the party at Five On Friday.

Thanks for dropping by!

  1. Such a simple but effective idea, I love the idea of using trim to fake the size of the windows, very clever.

  3. Oh my gosh! I kind of hate I saw all this. You have no idea how much I would love to break out of this wall-to-wall brown cabin we live in. I've loved it for years, but lately have been craving light and white! I may have gone blind and don't even know it.

  7. Wow, that is some kitchen and laundry room although keeping all the decoration clean would be a big task.

  8. I like that fake the baseboard idea!
The rest is lovely but wouldn't fit the style of my little house.
Still, it's pretty to look at!
