TBT Tip: Baking Soda Cleaning

Here's a Throw Back Thursday tipBaking soda is so cheap and versatile when it comes to cleaning. I know I've said this before, but it can be used on sinks, silver, refrigerators... and even on your skin mixed with an oil or cleanser.

Here's our tray after sprinkling it with baking soda and then wiping the baking soda with a clean wet cloth to remove the tarnish.

Cleaned With Baking Soda And A Damp Cloth

Here's the before...

The Ugly "Before"

One benefit in using baking soda for cleaning is that it is edible. If you clean your silverware with it you don't have to worry if some is left on your silverware or platters.

I'm joining the Share Your Cup Thursday Party over at Have A Daily Cup Of Mrs Olson. Hope you'll join the party too.

Thanks for dropping by!

  1. Such a great tip that I will be giving a go.

  2. Thanks! I've used baking soda in aluminum to clean silver but never on its own. I'm going to have to give this a try -- it's a lot easier than digging out the big aluminum foil pan and hot water! I use soda for my stainless all the time and it works great. You're right about edible residue, too!

  3. I'm glad you posted this again. I've simply got to polish my collection of old silverware, and I want to try the baking soda. Thank you!

  4. Thanks for such a great tip..I’m attending a Seder dinner this weekend and will now use one of my silver trays

  5. Does it work on copper? I'll have to give it a try.

    1. I don't think so with copper, but I have read somewhere that mayo or something like that does copper. Google it and you should get info.

  6. Beautiful piece, what a great tip!

  7. I use it to clean a lot of things...even occasionally my teeth. But, I never realized it would clean silver - thank you!

  8. I clean my silver tray the same way! One day I just wondered out of curiosity if it would work and it did. Works like a charm!

I'm trying to use baking soda and vinegar more and more.

  9. This is a great tip that I'd forgotten about...thanks for the reminder.

  10. I don't think I have ever used baking soda to clean my silver! I will try it next time. I usually use MAAS because it puts down kind of a protective coating at the same time.

Hope you have a great week, Sugar. xo Diana

  11. I wish I'd know about this before I bought an expensive bottle of silver cleaner!

  12. Really great! I love both baking soda and vinegar for cleaning. Thanks for sharing with SYC.

  13. Thanks for the tip .. as I was already to go and buy a ton of silver cleaner9 ha Ha)..What a gift... THANK YOU...Have a beautiful Day .
