Getting My Fall On...

Every year I plan to start fall decorating early and it seems I always get side-tracked.

Some of you probably think this is early, but for people like me who hate summer, anytime after the 4th of July is open to fall decorating around here!

Do you think it's the colors of fall that make the season so warm and welcoming?

I like to add drama to the browns and golds by adding my DIY chalkboard for the background.

I'll add my fall banner to the chalkboard as soon as it's uncovered in all the fall decor bins.

This year, half my stash of fall decor is going out the door as a donation...that's a promise!

I was moving the spring-like trough (above) out of the room when I noticed if I turned it around backwards so the words didn't show, the plain old-wood side and patched ends fit right in with the rustic fall themed colors...

So that's the entryway cabinet all dressed up for fall. I'll keep adding and taking away things until I get it the way I want. How about you? Has the fall decorating bug hit you yet?

Thanks for dropping by!

  2. I love all the browns and golds of the season. I have added a few decor items but don't go all out. Loved the chalkboard as a backdrop.

  3. I'm getting there! Inspired now, for sure! I'm going to get my chalkboard out again...it's been awhile. Your arrangement is beautiful. It IS the colors and textures, in my opinion, that make Autumn such a welcomed season.

  5. Okay, well at least something worked but I can't comment through blogger now. Another champagne problem! I love your trough. No decorating here I'm afraid, just making the bed and changing light bulbs is an achievement for me!

    1. Hey, Mr. Cool! I have to admit my bed might not get made every day so you're ahead of me. I have two light bulbs out in the master bathroom too! OMG...I'm so behind the curve these days!

  6. I don't usually decorate for many seasons except Christmas but I always enjoy seeing so many decorations in homes. I will do a little bit this year because of Grand doll

  8. You are spot on about the colors for fall, and you're off to a great start in your decorating! I love the trough, there are so many possibilities!

PS: THANK YOU for the comment on my blog, I've been missing yours! But your daughter is a true hero for all she does, and for opening her heart and home - I love hearing those happy endings and "foster failures!" Give her my best and know that I'm cheering her on!

    1. Thanks Kim. Love reading about all your dog rescues and how much love they get from you. Hope everyone hops over to your blog and takes a look. I will do a post on my daughter's foster dogs and adopted dogs. She really does deserve credit for her efforts to make the pound puppies' lives better.

  11. I am one that hangs onto summer!! It's still warm here and fall isn't too much on my mind. I donated nearly ALL my fall decor last year..by the time I put fall into my home, it's almost Christmas...this yr only a few pumpkins and natural stuff like pine cones and grasses...

  15. If you still have energy for more decorating, come over and do my house :) Your home looks gorgeous . . . so inviting and warm. In reply to the comment you left on my blog: Sorry . . . If I would have known that you were ready and packed, we could have swung by and picked you up. Wait a minute how many miles away would that be? LOL.
Have a sweet weekend. I think that we are going to the orchard for apples this weekend. I love Autumn, too:)

  19. I'm always happy when summer arrives but by the end of it I'm so exhausted by the heat and humidity and am ready to put aside the pretty pastels and welcome the warmer, earthier colors of autumn. Love your decorations.
