Buy Pairs, Not Singles

A while back, I read on someone's blog a tip
on decorating that has stayed with me...

Don't buy a decoration smaller than a baseball

I have a huge problem with loving the "littles"
so I really took that tip to heart.

Now, I have a decorating tip I'd like to share.
I've learned this the hard way!

Don't buy smaller decorations in singles,
always buy them in a pair if it's available
About a year ago, I bought this little round
picture. I loved it, but never hung it up because
it was too small for most areas or just seemed
dumb by itself.

There were several different birds to choose from
so I could have bought a pair, but chose not to.

Yesterday while down in McKenny, I found a sister
for my little bird picture at a consignment shop.

Now, I've finally got a place to hang them
since there are two...
They seem to go well with my tub full of faux
flowers and a bird's nest or two...
I'm sticking with faux flowers these days.
With the heat in Texas during August, it's
hard to keep real ones alive.

Thanks for dropping by!

  1. These are adorable, and I do like little ones. In our smaller home little ones fit in so well and are great fillers. But your right is there's a pair I will buy. Looks very nice in our vignette.

  7. I'm so glad you found another small bird picture. They look perfect together now. I've done that before too...bought just a small something and then it looks too tiny to ever use anywhere. Good decorating tip. Thank you!

  10. I've never heard that great tip of not buying smaller than a baseball, certainly makes sense. Love your little birdies. So glad you found them. Is is my imagination or are we displaying more bird pictures than usual. I'm cleaning and find I've painted more birds than I can remember, didn't know I liked them that much.

  13. I love these little bird pictures! They remind me of something I might see in my Nell Hill decorating books. : )

I used to {and probably still do} have a thing for smalls as well. I have tried not to buy them since we down-sized. Especially since I got rid of so many when we were packing up to move!

  14. A wonderful suggestion, those little bird plaques are gorgeous.
I have a house full of ' smalls' mostly ceramic English cottage miniatures, I just can't seem to bring myself to boxing them up :)

  19. They are darling! Buying in pairs is a smart idea. I think the exception to the rule about pairs and smalls is if you are doing a gallery wall. I just bought a cute wall vase and only bought one instead of two because they were more than I wanted to pay. Already regretting it. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
