What To Do With A Cabinet Color?

I like yellow, but not in our house any longer. My little china cabinet is yellow and I'm thinking of changing the color. I have five colors in mind so far.
My little cabinet is kind of like these two cabinets below, but I think they're prettier. First there's a blue one, but the blue is maybe too colorful for me. I feel like Goldilocks right now!
Second is a white one, but let's face it...I've already painted most of the stuff in the house bright white like this cabinet.
Right now, black and white together look real good to me. These photos are from the blog Looks Like White.
I'm also smitten with a barely there color and lots of distressing, like this pale green cabinet I saw at Three French Hen's shop in Wildwood Missouri a while back.
Maybe something a little off white? Just to take the yellowish edge off? Love this one...
and, also this one from Laurieanna's shop down in Canton Texas.
So you see, I'm open to anything but yellow. Although, come to think of it, Miss Mustard Seed has some pretty yellows in her paint line, but then I'm right back where I started. Have you any ideas for me?

Joining Amy at Love Made My Home for her Five On Friday party today. Come check out what others are doing this week.

Thanks for dropping by!

  1. Rivercrest Cottage,
All the cabinets, including yours are fabulous, dear friend!
If I were choosing, I'd pick the cabinet hue shown from Three French Hen's shop in Wildwood, Missouri !
I have one cabinet in "red" with chicken wire in our lower level Family Room that I absolutely l o v e!
I, too, am contemplating a color change to a buffet and hutch for my Dining Room and I have shades of gray swirling around in my mind. (Waiting on my shoulder to improve before tackling such a large project!)
Before I begin, I'll do some swatch searching at my Sherwin~Williams Home Paint Store!
Keep researching, I'm sure you'll come across the correct color choice.

  2. Oh gosh! I would pick that one, next to the last, Greige Design. But then, what do I know. I'm stuck in the all brown hunting lodge. :)

  3. No a one suggestion :)
But, my! Aren't you having fun?

  4. Something grey/greenish perhaps.

  5. Ha, ha, you sound like me when I was trying to pick the color for my she shed last week. I went with a light green and love it! Everything you showed is wonderful, so I am no help! :)

  6. You will know it when you see it, you will just fall in love. For me I loved the blue, but I am also a great fan of grey. Have fun deciding.

  7. I like the cabinet, but I'm no help with the color. I'd probably do an off white. But, the black is striking.

  8. I love highly distressed and barely there color! It's a great cabinet! Follow your heart!

  9. I'm loving the contrast of the black next to the white. Good luck choosing!

  10. I'm visiting from Five on Friday.

You do have a tough decision to make. All of them are pretty. I think I would go with the off white.

Back in the 80's black lacquer was all the rage, and our living room, dining room, and master bedroom were all done in that. I kind of got "blacked out" after 20 years.

    Good luck making your decision,
    Patti @ Embracing Home

  11. So beautiful cabinets! I favorite off white, but black is pretty too.
Thanks for your visit and words for me.
    Greetings from Germany

  12. I like the blue. It's easy picking colours for other people, but when it's for myself ....I'm so indecisive. Good luck with it.

  13. I like the blue though I confess to having a lot of blue in my house. It's a wonderful cabinet whatever colour you choose.

    Have a great weekend

  14. I love the blue, but think I might not for long, it is pretty "BLUE". Now black, I do love black/white.

  15. If in doubt go greige!
Loved all your cabinets but a soft grey would be my choice.
    bon weekend.

  16. I went for a duck egg blue for ours but the paint didn't go on brilliantly. :-)

  17. It is difficult when there are so many choices and possibilities isn't it! I am sure you will make the right choice for you! I am sorry to be so late visiting, we had a minor domestic drama yesterday - nothing serious in the end, all ok - but I didn't get a change to do any blogging. Thank you so much for taking part in Five On Friday, I do appreciate it! Hope you are having a great weekend!

  18. If that were my cabinet, I'd leave it exactly as it is and give it a place of honor. I think it's perfectly beautiful and would love one exactly like it.

Have you considered changing what's inside the cabinet? Much easier and would create an entirely different look. I would use some yellow items, some gold, and some brown to play up the beautiful floor. Just my opinion, but I'm partial to autumn colors.

  19. I'm picking a colour from your photos and the one i like is the second last one. very nice and elegant looking.

  20. So many options! I'm always leaning towards the blues, greys and whites - there are some lovely choices here. Hope you show us what you end up with.

  21. I have a Red cabinet that I'm going to paint.
    I'm painting it White.
or maybe Black after seeing the ones in this post.
But most likely it will be White,
    I think. LOL!
    Sorry! I can't help you,
    I can't even help myself!
