Best Movie This Month

We saw quite a few movies recently after months of not going to the movies. Why? It seemed hard to find a movie this summer that looked like anyone over 12 might enjoy!

The movie I highly recommend is Wind River, which is social commentary, adventure, murder, romance, and intrigue all rolled up into one movie.

And it doesn't hurt that Jeremy Renner is one of the stars! He's adorable, right?

Wind River is an Indian reservation where most of the action takes place in the dead of winter. The scenery is beautiful against living conditions that are sometimes downright sad.

The interaction between the Native Americans and the men and women in law enforcement slowly dispels stereotypical prejudices and provides some light moments in an otherwise dark subject of murder and missing girls.

Don't Miss Criminal

Seems like there's been a lot of movies aimed at the male mind lately, and a lack of movies aimed at the female audience. 

For this reason, I was "so-so" in my desire to see yet another macho movie when we set out to go yesterday.

Don't hesitate like I did ladies! This movie turned out to be a round-about romance hidden in an action style movie. There have been a lot of trailers for this movie shown on TV lately, but CRIMINAL still has a lot of surprises in it. We both loved this movie, and I think you will too.

Movie Quick List

So many movies right now! We saw more than a few of them recently and most were pretty good. Here's our list:


The Heart of The Sea. Wild Bill wanted to see this one, me not so much. Men go out on a boat in the late 1800's to chase whales...where's the story there? But I ended up loving it so much that I saw it twice in one week and would go see it again! 

Star Wars - The Force Awakens. Loved it. Don't listen to the critics and don't let anyone tell you about it before you see it. If you love the original, you will probably love this one too.

Sisters. Two 39-and-holding sisters go home to clean out their old bedroom when their parents decide to sell the house they grew up in. We haven't laughed so hard in a movie in a long time. Even youngest daughter, who hates to go to the movie, said she laughed 'til the tears ran down her cheeks. Some foul language, be forewarned.

Joy. Single mom has a gift for designing products and collecting crazies. We both wanted to see this one and had high expectations. Afterwards we were on the fence. Good in some parts, slow in other parts.

The Big Short. Again, I went because Wild Bill chose it, but ended up loving it myself. Great explanations of what happened to all the money in the housing crash and too-big-to-fail situation.

Movie Review

Bridge Of Spies was not on "my" must-see movie list, but it was on Wild Bill's. We finally saw it this afternoon.

The first half was a little slow while they set up the background, but the second half made it all worth while. It probably won't surprise you when I say I spent the last 10 minutes just bawling. No, not the noisy sobs, but the couldn't-catch-my-breath-for-the-big-lump-in-my-throat kind of crying.

We gave the movie two thumbs up. Definitely see it at the movies as the big screen enhances the gloominess of the scenes in East Germany and on the bridges during the spy exchange.

American Sniper...Don't Miss It

We saw American Sniper yesterday.

Despite all the Hollywood snipes being taken

against it, we were happy we saw it. And proud

of our military who risk, and lose, their lives

every day in the war zones.

My grandmother used to say about war:

"It's a rich man's war but a poor man's fight"

No truer words can be spoken about war in

general and this movie certainly makes it clear.

When you see the movie, be sure to stay until

the very, very end. It's not to be missed.

Don't wait for the video, this is one movie

I can't imagine not seeing on the big screen.



A Winner And A Loser

Monday is Seniors Day, all day, all movies are $5.50

for seniors at our local Cinemark.

Tuesday is Discount Day, all day, all movies are $5.00

for everyone.

We took advantage of Seniors day today and saw

the new Tom Cruise movie,

Edge of Tomorrow

I've never been much of a Tom Cruise fan until today.

Seriously. His best movie, ever!

Go before you hear anything about it.

Go before you read any reviews.

Just go.

You'll be glad you did.

On the other hand...

Last week we saw another movie,

A Million Ways To Die In The West

About half way through the movie, I was wishing

I could die to get out of seeing the rest of it.

For this particular movie, I recommend you

don't even waste money on a video rental.

It was that bad.
