Island Fever

This isn't a post about a much needed vacation on a luxury island. Turn away now unless you're obsessed with getting rid of kitchen clutter.

My original idea was to put the usual "counter stuff" on an island so the kitchen wouldn't be so messy. Well, the island got too messy.

What to do?

I couldn't put pots and pans on the pot rack portion because it just added to the visual clutter, so I use it for holding cups.

Then the question was, where to put the pots and pans?

They ended up on the shelf below, which was way too much clutter!

So I cleared it off...

And then the journey to find some sturdy, large (perferably cute) baskets began.

Pottery barn, too expensive...
World Market, too expensive...
                  Finally - Target - perfect!

I'm proud to say for once, before I went shopping,  I measured the space and determined the number and size baskets I needed:
  • one for small pots and pans
  •  one for the blender and food processor
  •  one for bowls and strainers

Perfect...I couldn't be happier about the baskets. Don't they fit perfect? Aren't the little chalkboards darling? ...but... now... I'm thinking the top of the island  is too messy and the kitchen counter-tops are too bare.

I'm sharing at the following blog parties this week:

  1. Wow, this looks great! I love the baskets; they fit perfectly! Your island is so wonderful!

  2. Love the baskets! I'm in the process of painting my kitchen cupboards and that has led to total declutter of the kitchen. Yay! ~ Maureen

  3. Oh I am so excited to get to come and see your new island! The baskets are absolutely perfect. It's nice to see someone else to "sweats" the small details when accessorizing too!
I am always second guessing myself when it is my home that I am decorating.

    Love what you have done!

  4. The baskets were definitely meant to be! I love the island, especially with the baskets. Adorable!

  5. I love the baskets--it is amazing how much they hold! I always end up changing things around and rearranging until I figure out exactly what I want and what looks the best, too. So nice to hear from you over at my blog, and glad you liked the potatoes au gratin. Also I love the name of your blog--I can relate :)

  6. The dilemmas never end, do they? I think it's looking good. Sounds like you'll have fun getting it just right. Thanks for stopping over at Quirky Vistas and leaving me your fun comment!

  7. Love the Island...Thank you for stopping by and your sweet comment.

  8. Great baskets and I do like the little chalkboards.

  9. This looks terrific - really love the baskets and the cups! I am featuring your post in this week's Home and Garden Thursday - I do appreciate you sharing.

  10. Your island is gorgeous and the baskets couldn't be more perfect!
