A New Garden Party

We bought some plants today to try to revive our pots in the front yard. Luckily, I didn't see Everyday Living's new garden party, Garden's Galore, before I went to the garden center.
Had I seen the new garden party before I went, I probably would have spent a lot more money at the garden center! You can check out the party Here.
Just Jan Blog shared this photo of her fabulous blue hydrangeas.

Drats! I bought a plant with blue hydrangeas like this about a month ago, and now they are faded and very pale.  I'm doing something wrong, no doubt.

I'll be checking out Jan's post to see if she has advice for us wannabe gardeners.
Have A Daily Cup Of Mrs. Olson's inspiring post was about the garden gates she saw while on vacation in Carmel California. It was love at first sight for me! You can see Mrs. Olson's photos and post HERE.

Here's some photos of our pots last year. I bought four new potato vines at the nursery today because last year's vines were so pretty. It seemed no matter how hot our Texas sun got, these vines just got bigger and better!
And it seemed that every time I cut back this ornamental cabbage, it grew back better than ever.
I hope you'll pop over to the garden party and add your pretty garden to the mix. Gardens Galore Link Up Party.

Thanks for dropping by!

  1. Yeah- those hydrangeas need the acid level in the soil to be right or they lose their color. Crazy! I didn't buy nearly the flowers this year that I have other years---too much going on to tend them. Yours are lovely!!! xo Diana

  4. Hydrangeas are water hogs. They are fantastic plants for areas where you have water problems like near a downspout or an air conditioner. Water yours and maybe give it some of your used coffee grounds every once and a while. It will do fine.

    1. Lisa, thanks for the info about watering and coffee grounds! I tend to over water so I'll stop worrying about giving them too much. Thanks again.

  5. Hey cutie, thanks so much for the shout out!! I laughed when you said you would have spent more money if you had seen the party. :) I love sweet potato vines and yes, they do love the heat! Jan's Hydrangeas are gorgeous. The big pretty pink and blue ones don't do well here, but I buy one now and then for a pot. As long as I cut off the spent buds they keep producing more.
    hugs,
    Jann

  7. I don't know why I've never tried growing hydrangeas, I've always loved them. Maybe next year.

  8. I buy hydrangea plants at Trader Joe's and plant them in the garden. This year, after some good rainy days in winter, I'm able to water and the hydrangea plants are finally thriving and blooming. They are still small, but I have hopes.

  9. I always spend more than I plan in the garden center. It is the grown woman's candy shop.

  10. You aren't doing anything wrong btw. All hydrangea flowers change as they age. I have some that are white that go green as they change and then brown. The flowers always fade or change color and become dry like paper. Some areas have a long enough growing season that if you cut them off they may re-bloom.
