Faux Stone Walls

At the Vintage Mercantile in Frisco Texas, I was taken with this faux stone wall. 

One of the vendors at the Mercantile had walls done in faux brick and faux stone.

 I wasn't a fan of the faux brick, but the faux stone...hmmm...maybe!

The farther away from the faux wall you get, the more realistic it looks. 

If you look at the ad poster on the wall in the picture above, you'll see what I mean. Or maybe not? What do you think?

Thrift Shopped Rabbits

These two small rabbit pictures came home with me from a local thrift shop the other day. I paid a whopping $10 for each one!

I was awed by the form of their pretty frames, thinking I would add some dark wax to them to tone down the gold a little.

The lone rabbit in the left picture I thought was particularly cute. 

Of course for $10 I accepted the fact the value was in the frames and not what I thought were reproduction prints.

The two check-out ladies were admiring the pieces of art and expressed sadness they hadn't seen them first since they were so cheap!

I didn't bother to tell them the trick is to look high and low when you're out thrift shopping. If I have time, I even walk the shop left to right and then turn around and walk it right to left. Wait...What?Obsessive? Probably so!

When I got home, I noticed a slight chip on one of the frames. I'm sure it happened after I bought it due to carelessness on my part...

I was careless because I wasn't too concerned about how the pictures were wrapped since I was planning on making the frames my next paint/wax victims. 

Wild Bill hates thrift shopping so he sits in the pickup outside and reads a book. On this hot day, he was parked up the street, and when he saw me he drove down to pick me up in a kind of Bonnie and Clyde escape.

I barely had time to throw my purchase in the back seat and jump in the truck before he was on his way!

Imagine my surprise when I got the pictures home and turned to the backs and read the tags that said they were Hand Painted by Robert Grace: 

I went on the internet to look up the artist, Robert Grace. It dawned on me I already have a larger print copy of a different one of his rabbit paintings, but that's for another day.

One of the exact rabbit paintings, with same frame, is currently for sale with a bid of $70.  Man...I done good on these two!!!

Adding More Fall

It's not fall around our house until we bring out the picture of our grandson Ben pretending to drive a tractor in the fall of his first year. Mostly I love the "Brand New Parents" adoration on his parents face!

It does look like I need to paint that frame -- perhaps a fall color since that's the only time of the year the picture comes out. Maybe this burnt orange color on the faux striped pumpkin here.

I might try to have the color in the pumpkin color-matched by computer into a perfect fall paint color. 

The store I use the most for color matching paint is Home Depot. I've never had a problem with their computer's matching of colors, but I have had problems with other stores. 

One time I even took a blob of paint I scraped up off the floor and had it color-matched by Home Depot. Their paint guy told me they only need a sample the size of a quarter for their computer to do the match.

I kinda like that the pumpkin on the pillow looks so much like these faux pumpkins I bought recently. 

The "professionals" say you should repeat a color in a room at least three times, so the pillow and the two pumpkins should have that rule covered!

The little plaid pillow I bought at Sam's Club the other day for $14. They had lots of cute pillows on display, but the plaid called my name.

I have a thing for cotton bolls too lately...doesn't everyone? I bought these at a local shop for $6 and then saw some at a chain store for twice the price. I'll be working them into the fall decor as soon as I figure out where.

Starbucks Revolt

In the old downtown area of our small northeast Texas town, you will only find a cute local coffee shop called "Bean Me Up"

You'll have to trek out to the highway to find the Starbucks, but then why would you want to? 

Bean Me Up has everything you could want, including quite an attitude. The best part is you don't have to remember anything except small, medium or large.
