12 Weeks Not 12 Months

When I hear myself whispering "Where does the time go?" I think of all the old ladies I've known. That was a question I often heard my grandmothers ask themselves when I was a child.
But then, I'm not an old lady...Well, at least not in my mind anyway. In my mind, I'm still 19... even though my three daughters range from 36 to 42! How about you? Is there an age you stalled at?

Someone once said there seems to be only 12 weeks between New Years and Christmas. I laughed at that thought back then, but now I'm not so sure that they were wrong.
All these thoughts are coming, I think, because Thanksgiving is only a few days away and our dining room is in transition and looks like this...
As you can see, my latest painting victim is boots to the sky, and that table will be needed to seat the guests on Thursday. While other bloggers are showing their fantastic tablescapes and floral arrangements, I'm just praying I finish painting the table in time.
I do have a backup plan. Cracker Barrel, that mecca of down home decor which you can see in these pictures, is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving this year. Did I hear you gasp? We've done worst.
One year when we lived near Seattle, with only the youngest (who was 16) at home that year, we three drove up to Canada and had Mexican food along the way.

Thanks for dropping by!

  3. So true. It's time to make New Year resolutions soon and I've barely began on the ones I made in January. Time does fly.

  4. Hey I love your thinking! No use in sweating the holidays when all that matters is a little time together. :)

We are in total disarray too but I'm just doing the best I can.

    Happy Thanksgiving. :)

  5. That is funny. My sister and I are always saying how we think we are much younger than other women our age. I suppose most women feel that way. Poppy and I are thinking about Cracker Barrel for dinner tomorrow. It will just be the two of us. But then, he wants to hunt. :(

  6. We've had one Cracker Barrel Thanksgiving, and it was The Best! No prep. No clean-up. The only downside? No leftovers (one of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving meal)!

  8. Your comment about driving to Canada and eating Mexican food made me think of one of our funny Thanksgiving.

No one in our family is big on the turkey/stuffing meal. We love the family part though and we decided to take the family to Mexico for the Thanksgiving weekend. We went into our favorite restaurant expecting great tacos and enchiladas only to find that they were serving a typical American Thanksgiving dinner.

Happy Thanksgiving no matter what you do!

  9. I think it is good to step outside of the holiday box and do something different! We get in ruts and need to be pushed out of them sometimes! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving feast, regardless of where you celebrate! Love and hugs to you!!
