Well Done Texas: Hurricane Harvey

Yesterday we were headed down towards Dallas on HWY 75, which runs directly south from the Oklahoma border to Dallas -- where it turns into Interstate 45 and runs all the way south to Houston.

Houston Area In Path Of Hurricane Harvey Aug 2017

As we passed what was a construction zone just days ago, we saw all the construction equipment was loaded onto trucks and haulers, which were sitting on the side of the road (the front of one vehicle almost touching the end of the vehicle in front of it) in a long "convoy" line.

All the large vehicles (there must've been at least 25 of them) had a driver behind the wheel and appeared to be ready to go!

It was such an odd sight, it took me a minute to realize Texas had already mobilized road construction workers throughout the northern part of the state to head down south to aid the victims of Hurricane Harvey!

I'm pretty sappy so you won't be surprised that it brought tears to my eyes when I saw how The Great State of Texas was already mobilizing, not only the National Guard, but everyday people.

Texas National Guard Mobilizing To Assist, Aug 25, 2017

This is how it's meant to be in the United States. The states take care of themselves and the Federal Government stands ready to provide Federal assistance when and where needed.

Our President had already offered Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi back up support and Federal Aid when and where needed, but the American spirit was alive and well on our Texas highways yesterday and probably for weeks to come.

Thanks for dropping in!

  1. They were really ready thanks to your governor. Hopefully Harvey will head out to see and fizzle out.

    Take care.

  3. Here in the UK we had a recent disaster in London, with Grenfell tower setting alight and killing hundreds of people, but what was moving was the way everyone pulled together to help.

  4. Texas is such a vast place compared to the UK, but to know that it's all being taken care of is a good thing.
It's a natural disaster that can happen anywhere in the US and often does. To have the whole country supporting you, if you need it, is reminiscent of how it used to be during the war. 👍 🇺🇸

  7. I don't think I've ever meant "God Bless Texas" more than now. We are praying that the levees hold and our friends and family along the coast know the doors of Storybook Cottage are open to them.

  8. I was working in my yard in the middle of Dallas this morning. Heard helicopters. Overhead were 4 south bound helicopters flying together, no doubt headed to the Gulf, maybe from OK or KS. I know there are search & rescue personnel from LA, FL & AZ down there already. American spirit indeed!
