To Paint Or Not To Paint, That Is The Question!

The world works in mysterious ways. I just bought a tall old cabinet with a wood finish and hauled it home with the sullen help of my not-too-happy-about-it husband.

For once, I didn't imagine painting it when I saw this piece. This is a shocker because, according to Wild Bill, my Indian name is "Woman Who Paints Everything"

But this piece seemed happy to be wood, and I wasn't unhappy about leaving it that way. We put it in the garage while I took some time to think about it.

If we leave the cabinet unpainted, it still needs some TLC time with a wood finish product and that needs to be done in the garage.

Taking a breather, I checked some blog posts. To my surprise painted-furniture-lover Linda, at Q is for Qaundie, was dealing with a similar issue!

When I saw this gorgeous cabinet of hers...well...I'm thinking, "don't paint it!"  What do you guys think?  To paint or not to paint...seems that is the question today.

Be sure to read Quandie's blog POST. You will get a good laugh as she describes taking her whole neighborhood to pick up the cabinet.

Thanks for dropping by!

  1. I say don't paint either, I like it just the way it is.
    Has character.

  2. I would put it in the house and live with it unpainted for a while. I like a mix of painted and wood tones in a room.

  3. Sugar,
I say, "Paint it." It will look fantastic.

  4. Like Sherry I would suggest putting in the house and living it with it for awhile. You will know what you want to do.

  5. Yes, I say live with it as is for now! "Woman who paints everything" will decide if and when the time is right! Just enjoy it! Aloha!

  6. Well, I am a lover of wood but with this one, I'm not so sure. Can you live with it for a while as it is, see how it feels in the changing light and then decide? x

  7. I love this piece you bought and I too would leave it in the house and then decide after a while what to do with it. Good luck with your decision.

  8. Thanks so much for the shout out Sugar! So far I plan to live with my cupboard for a while before deciding whether or not to alter it. I got a lot of advice to lime wax it, and I'm really giving that some consideration now.
Based on your motto of "Why Leave It Simple When You Can Complicate The Hell Out Of It", I can totally see your china cupboard painted with a couple of IOD transfers added to those doors at the bottom. Do you want to display items inside, or could you maybe add grain sack liners to the upper doors?
