Halloweens Past...Cuz I'd Rather Be Merry Than Scary This Year

Halloween is almost here and we have a bushel basket full of candy, but just haven't taken the time to decorate for Halloween like I've always done in the past.

It seems like I just want to get through Halloween so I can get into Christmas.

Yeah, I'll say it...

I'm not feeling Halloween this year!

So I thought I'd put up some photos of "Halloweens Past" so you wouldn't think I'm a complete grump.

These pictures are all from other years when the Halloween spirit was with me.

I know my Halloween spirit will come back...just not this year.

This year I'll breathe a sigh of relief on November 1st and make a bee-line for Christmas. I'd rather be Merry than Scary this year!

Maybe it's because 2018 has been a hard year for us...too many losses. The future looks bright, but the recent past has taken a toll.

This year I'm not going to black out my teeth or put on a costume, but I will wear this T-Shirt, give out candy, and admire all the little ones who come to the door.

Then on November 1st, fall and Halloween are gone and I hope my mood brightens. I really can't wait for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and 2019 to get here.

I've even picked my "word" for 2019... it's JOY.  I hope to find all the joy in 2019 that we missed out on in 2018, and I hope you do too.

Thanks for dropping by!
(And Happy Halloween To You)

  1. Can I say 'me to' - candy to give away, minimal decoration (2 Dollar Store flat pumpkin shapes to hang on the door). Lights on and come and get candy, lights off we gave it all away.

    1. You made me laugh! Lights off is what I'm looking forward to. And will you use Joy, Joy? I had to ask.

  2. Your little black rat arrangement was very whimsical, and not scary. I have never liked anything scary. Though I love the costumes, as long as they are not scary. Book characters are some of my favorites. I am looking forward to the holidays as well, and I've been cleaning, because this year is my turn to host Thanksgiving again. xoxo Su

    1. I love your kitchen and always look forward to seeing you feature it on your blog (hint, hint...bring me joy!) We are hosting Thanksgiving, but I have forgotten how to cook so the 3 daughters and one son-in-law will be cooking everything again this year and I will be the one playing with the grandkids!

  3. I'm really not a fan of Halloween and we usually just go out to eat and not even observe it.
This year since it's on a Wednesday so we will be at church.
That is some scary looking face!! : )

    1. Janet, seems you've had a year of coming back from illness like Wild Bill. It takes a toll you don't know is there until you start to recover and find yourself finally feeling the grief of it. Hoping this year will be joyful for you too.

  5. Love your photos from "Halloween past"! Sometimes we just go through the motions when our heart isn't in it but that even gets difficult to do when there has been such a time of loss. Our 2016 year was that way. Just wanted all the holidays to go away and leave me alone! Be merry, have the boos and give out candy...or just eat it all yourself! :-) Love and hugs!

  6. We haven't bothered much either but I think that is because the Grandchildren are so far away. Looking forward to Christmas.

    1. Kitty, don't we all wish we could've had her as our mom or been her actually. I'm keeping her in mind for my future self...celebrate the small stuff!

  10. I haven't been feeling Halloween for awhile now...we used to decorate so much for it and now I just skim by it! It got to be so much decoratign in a row, labor day, Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas (which I love) and then New Years..It got to be too much decorating! Halloween past was nice to see!

    1. I feel exactly the same way. We're having some work done on the house and then I'm going strictly Christmas, but a tamed-down version of it.

  13. We don't celebrate Halloween at all, as Christians it doesn't line up with our faith. My older daughter did join in at Uni, got drunk, felt really ill, and said she wouldn't bother again. Lol.
