Hooks Galore

Have you been to Laurie Anna's
Vintage Home blog?

She has a shop in Canton Texas,
which is only open 4 days each
month, on the first weekend of
the month, for Trade Days.

We were down there last Friday,
and I bought some more hooks.

I already have too many, but

I couldn't pass them up...
they're just so cute!

Just a metal tube with two rounds
on each end with numbers!

You know it was the numbers
that got me, right?

The bottom round has three holes
to screw them into a board or wall.

I thought they might look good on
this vintage board I already had.

I took off the old hooks when
I painted the board a while back.

The old hooks were too rusty to
hang anything on.

--Real rust--

Not fake rust like these...

Anyway, the board got painted a
while back, but it's still waiting to
get some dark wax and distressing
while I've been looking for new
hooks for it.

I bought some other numbered
hooks last Friday too.
Laurie Anna's only had them
with two big numbers --

Four Hundred Fifty-Six
and
A Hundred Twenty-Three

Odd right?
I bought two of each number for
another project I had in mind.

That night I was thinking about
the fact they only had those two
strange numbers, when it hit me.

OHHHHHH!!!

1 - 2 - 3

4 - 5 - 6

Yes. I was that dumb!

They don't allow picture-taking in
the store, but you can see her
shop, and Laurie Anna's lovely
farmhouse too, on their blog.

Thanks for stopping by.

I'm just a loyal shopper and these are
my opinions only. I received no
compensation for this post.

Easter In Black

I'm not brave enough to paint
the walls black, but I have been
adding a lot of black accents.

When I decided to create an
Easter vignette recently I used
black, brown and a little mix
of green.

I'll admit it's not my usual mix
of colors for Easter, but it
makes me happy in a sort of
Adam's Family way.

I started with an old lantern. It was
red, so I slopped on some black chalk
paint. You can still see a little red in
some of the cracks. The paint was
Amy Howard's One-Step in black.

It didn't have the glass chimney
when I bought it at a garage
sale years ago, but that's OK
with me as it works better
without it for decorating.

I had the nest on hand along
with this candle ring...

The two together make a perfectly
blingy nest for one of these birds.

The other bird got this softer nest...

I added an old Christmas bow
to perk it up a bit.

I'm going to add a cloche next
to cover it, and then find a
permanent place for it.

Thanks for stopping by!

New "Old" Coat Rack

My birthday was this month
(yep...19 again!)

Wild Bill and I went to my
favorite place, McKinney TX,
so I could pick out something
for him to buy me.

Another rack with hooks...

I so love the idea of these.

It was hard to get a good picture.

I put it on the entry bench, which
still has the Winter pillow on it.

I don't usually go for aqua, but with
the rusty look, I couldn't pass it up.
It's a reproduction of course, but
it does look vintage at least.

I'm waiting for it to warm up a little
so we can do some work in the
garage and cut a board to use as
a backing for the rack.

I'm worried it may not hold up on
the wall without a board backing it.

Any suggestions on hanging it?

I'd love to hear them while we
wait here for the Spring thaw.

Vintage Love And Computer Issues

One of my favorite things of all my
finds is this vintage strainer.

It looks lighter here, but is actually
almost a denim blue in my
windowless kitchen.

See how much darker it is hanging
on the kitchen cabinet?

I've been grumpy lately
and avoiding my blog.

My computer was acting up and
it would not show a lot of the
pictures on blogs, so we decided
it was time to get a new laptop.

Guess what?

The new one acted up too!

Turns out, it was in our high speed
cable internet box...or modem...or
something to do with the connection.

I kinda tuned out when Wild Bill
went into what I call his
"deep discussion mode"
about how he fixed it.

Just wanted to warn ya'll that if
your computer won't show pictures
on blogs, you might want to check
out the little box thingy and the
cable internet stuffy before you
blame your poor laptop.

That's as technical as I get.

Thanks for stopping by and visiting.
I'm always glad to see you here.

Saw On Craigslist

I may be addicted to Craigslist.

I have a garage full of projects and
yet I check Craigslist everyday.
I sincerely hope I'm not the only one!

I love this coffee table...

I think the coffee table legs could
be extended to make it high enough
to make it a farm table.

I keep thinking it would be easier to
buy it than to make a new top for the
too small table we already have.

Thoughts???

Thanks for stopping by. I hope
you have some advice for me.

Spring Chalkboard

The pumpkins and scarecrow are gone.

I will admit I thought about just leaving
them up and pretending I was early for Fall.

I was feeling kind of drab, so I thought I
would go towards the pink and green.

I started with a boxwood heart I
bought for Valentine's Day decorating,
but never got round to it.

Next I added this old platter from
the year 1947.

The pattern is called "Callarose"

I have a "thang" for those little
cups. I think they used them in
coffee shops back when a Cup
of Joe was just a cup, not a tall
or grande and such like today.

Even made in the USA!

I have a big basket of them in
different colors, yet I will still buy
more when I find them in shops.

Here's the old look with the little
pumpkins, pinecones and rusty leaves.

And, here's the new look below.

If you're sayin' it looks like I left
some of the xmas greens in the
basket...well you'd be right!

It just seemed too plain with only
the platter and the cups below.

Thanks for stopping by.

Sure wish you could stay for a cup
of tea and help me climb up top the
cabinets to get the rest of the Fall
and Christmas decor down.

About The Pig

I'm still wanting to add more black and
white to contrast with all the drab
brown, especially in the kitchen.

I surrounded the pig with piles of
white plates to bring in more white.

Wild Bill asked if I was actually
going to cook something?

He seemed a little disappointed
to learn it was just another
decorating binge.

As the saying goes:

"I get the concept of cooking, I just
don't know how it applies to me!"

Mr. Pig is a great tool for adding
a little whimsy to the decor.

I purchased him for $44 about
6 years ago in Salado Texas.

Of course one thing leads to
another, and soon I was tearing
the whole kitchen apart.

About time!

There's still a scarecrow on top
of the cabinet...

And the chalkboard still has
little pumpkins...

Thanks for stopping by!

Sawdust Girl

Wild Bill subscribes to a lot of
woodworking magazines and
buys many books on the subject,
but I told him all he needs to do
is type in Sawdust Girl!

I heart her.

Black And White For Sure

It hit me recently that I love a
dramatic look.
Like...black and white dramatic!

With a little touch of gold-ish brown.

I'm not kidding about the black.

I would love black walls like the ones
in these old pictures. I think they're
from an old issue of the magazine,
Better Homes and Gardens...

BH&G

BH&G

It looks like I would need white floors
to pull off the black wall look.

Our kitchen has a sort of white floor.

Maybe I could paint the back wall
below the one cabinet black?

There are wonderful "house" pictures
over on the blog, Hooked on Houses.

Here's the house from the movie,
Something's Got To Give

From Hooked On Houses
I could trim my back wall with thick
trim across the wall above the window,
then paint the wall white below the trim.

And, in my kitchen, before I paint that
back wall black, I could add shelf
 brackets under the glass cabinet...

Just like they did in the movie
kitchen...

More projects.
It's so fun to dream!
