McKinney Again

I snuck off by myself on Friday,

and spent the whole blissful day

in McKinney Texas.

Those black chalkboard walls in the

photo above are in one of my favorite

stores...Patina Green

Don't laugh at my picture... I had to

stand sideways to get that picture of

their sign for you.

They have a lovely eating area in

front of their store/café, and people

were sitting in front of the sign.

Due to my "expert" photography skills,

I was able to get a picture of the front of

the store and a reflection of the seating

area too...not bad, right?

They grow a few herbs and veggies in the

flower box too. Kind of kicky. You might

even say downright bohemian for Texas.

I actually had a mission that day.

I was looking for advice...

It involves this old pub table.

I hope to have it finished soon and will be

back to tell you about it.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to talk Wild Bill into

building me a planting box like Patina Green's.

Local Home And Garden Show

We're a "fixin" to have some work done on both

our front and back yards, so we went out to

take a look at some of the vendors at the

local home and garden show...

We have a low spot in the front

yard, so we are very interested in

putting in a dry creek with these

type of stones.

And we have some utilities in the

yard that would be fun to hide

with one of these fake rocks...

The lavender and red geraniums had me

at hello... 

This lady got there first, but there was

plenty more to go around.

 There are plenty of rocks here in Texas,

but these franchisees are part of

a Kansas business.

Some of the furniture stores were there

showing their wares...

Kaleidoscope Farm was selling

worm casings. Loved them.

They had bags of casings open so

we could run our hands through

them. hmmm...worm casings!

So good for your garden. So gross though!

We met quite a few new (to us) businesses,

and we've already had a few come out

and provide services, so it has

worked out well for us.

Lining Up The Victims

We are getting ready to have some
outside projects done to our yard, so
this month we are saving up our $$
money by staying home.

Staying home really helps to get things
done around the house too!

I'm almost done with my current project,

so I've been lining up what Wild Bill
refers to as "my next victims".

Here's an oak cabinet we bought when

we were first married almost 20 years ago.

OMG!
That makes it (and our marriage) almost vintage.

I think she needs some paint...

or maybe a darker stain...

but maybe not?

I'm open to any ideas you might have.

This old copper lantern is pretty dented

and tarnished on the bottom.

I'm thinking of adding some touches

of black to it, like I did to the old

red lantern a few posts back...

I use to find lots of these old lanterns

at garage sales, priced really cheap.

Most are missing the glass chimneys,

which are real easy to replace if you

feel the need to.

I like them without the glass myself...

much easier to decorate.

Chickens And Birds

Here's the black lantern and little

birds under a cloche.

It kind of looks like they're

afraid of the chickens...

or, that the chickens are stumped

by the little birds.

Either way, I find them

entertaining, but I miss the

flowers that usually perk up

that area.

They won't be here long, but 

then again, nothing ever stays the

same for long around here.

I'll bet you know what I'm talking

about, right?

Does your husband always turn the

lights on before he takes a step into

the living room? Yep, thought so!

Hooks Galore

Have you been to Laurie Anna's
Vintage Home blog?

She has a shop in Canton Texas,

which is only open 4 days each

month, on the first weekend of

the month, for Trade Days.

We were down there last Friday,

and I bought some more hooks.

I already have too many, but

I couldn't pass them up...

they're just so cute!

Just a metal tube with two rounds

on each end with numbers!

You know it was the numbers

that got me, right?

The bottom round has three holes

to screw them into a board or wall.

I thought they might look good on

this vintage board I already had.

I took off the old hooks when

I painted the board a while back.

The old hooks were too rusty to

hang anything on.

--Real rust--

Not fake rust like these...

Anyway, the board got painted a

while back, but it's still waiting to

get some dark wax and distressing

while I've been looking for new

hooks for it.

I bought some other numbered

hooks last Friday too.

Laurie Anna's only had them

with two big numbers --

Four Hundred Fifty-Six

and

A Hundred Twenty-Three

Odd right?

I bought two of each number for

another project I had in mind.

That night I was thinking about

the fact they only had those two

strange numbers, when it hit me.

OHHHHHH!!!

1 - 2 - 3

4 - 5 - 6

Yes. I was that dumb!

They don't allow picture-taking in

the store, but you can see her

shop, and Laurie Anna's lovely

farmhouse too, on their blog.
